Materials testing characterises a material: its structure, its surface and coatings, and its condition after use or exposure. 706 accredited labs in 23 countries have materials testing in their scope. Most of them are in Germany, United Kingdom and France. The most common standards in these scopes are ISO 9227, EN ISO 643 and ASTM E112.
Typical tests: metallography, microstructure, grain size, coatings, corrosion, salt spray, polymers, welds, concrete, aggregates, asphalt, soils, textiles and timber. Strength under load belongs to mechanical testing and chemical composition to chemical testing. Labs that test metals are also on the metal page.
